Carmine spends a few more days in the wilderness as the winter cold really begins to set in. He builds a fire and keeps it well stoked throughout the day with wood to ward off freezing. Meanwhile, back in town Merios has an encounter with his greatest fear as he is awoken by a huge snake with him under his blanket, eating..something. Fortunately, Kervalin and Papa Donger were with him in town and woke up to Merios' cries of terror. They both sprung into action and attacked the snake, causing it to spit up it's food to defend itself. Though at points he was overcome with fear, he was able to get away from the snake with a few distractions by the others. Oddly, the snake did not immediately attack the others, but instead moved to Merios in a defensive position. Merios recognized this behavior and though it frightened him so, he decided to try and befriend the snake. Papa Donger vowed to kill it if he saw it, but Merios was able to influence the snake and direct it to hide from Papa while they came to an agreement about it. The day ends with Kervalin clearing out the last few trees from the area, revealing the town from a great distance. It would only take clearing out a bit more stone and the stumps and this would be a proper foundation for a town.
